A wealthy Merchant skeptically asked, "Where is your God? How can I meet him? What can you tell me about him?" The Master being questioned sat up and became very alert, yet remained silent. After a moment he closed his eyes. A few moments went by. The Merchant waited curiously. Expectantly. Was he attempting to contact God? Was he about to channel the Spirits? What trickery was he up to? A few minutes more went by. A great ecstacy bathed the face of the Master. A tranquility was vibrant in his silence. But to the Merchant it was thick, hollow and very long. He became restless and impatient for his answer. He muttered, "this is nonsense". He paced a little hoping his agitation would hurry the Master. But the Master remained still and silent. "What are you doing!? I asked you a question", grumbled the Merchant. "Answer it!" The Master replied, "That's what I was doing. This is my answer." But the merchant was not impressed. He wanted some answers. He wanted some proof. He insisted the Master had to answer the question. The Master says, "Okay". With his finger he writes in the sand: Meditation. The Merchant looks at the word and then at the Master. "I ask you about God and you write 'meditation'? Is this some kind of joke? It's totally irrelevant!" The Master replies, "That's all I can say or am allowed to say. You are asking about the goal, I talk about the Way. The goal is incomprehensible and so mysterious, that nothing can be said about it. If you have eyes to see, see! if you have ears to hear, hear! Hear my silence and the song that my silence is, and the music that arises in it. If you cannot hear it, that simply shows that you need meditation. So meditate." The Merchant skeptically blurts, "That's it? One word? Meditate? Couldn't you at least elaborate a little?" The Master wrote again in bigger letters: Meditation. "That's hardly elaboration is it?" complained the Merchant. "Repeating yourself or writing it bigger isn't much of an elaboration!" And the Master wrote again in bigger letters: MEDITATION. He said, "Nothing more can be said about it. You will have to do it. You will have to be it. It is the only way to know the unknowable." "But I have tried all this nonsense", complained the Merchant. "I have meditated." "No, you have not", replied the Master. "You have fooled yourself with belief. You have created a model of the world which you believe to be real. But you are asleep and you are dreaming, and the model is ever changing to support your slumber. This is what you cling to. You haggle for the things you believe. And you believe that you have meditated when you have only imitated. You do not want to wake up." "What makes you so perceptive about my experience?" Sneered the Merchant, sarcastically. "simply that you live as before, with the same thoughts, with the same habits, the same diet, the same attitude, the same desires, the same pleasures and the same pain. If you had awoken things would have utterly changed."
The Master replied, "That's what I was doing. This is my answer."

And I'm serious too!
daveslemmer you have my understanding. I've heard of an island off the coast of Florida where your view would fit in with the culture there. We have to accept others views even though we may disagree with them.

I do not understand why Dick and not so curious say what they say...my gut feeling is that they are just making fun of us...but, if indeed they are sincere in their questions and comments...I still don't get it :-) Like the cult thing...geez, there is not enough consent on this forum to be a cult ;-) My idea of a cult is a place in which everyone adheres to the same belief system, all devoted to one living person, and they end up giving all their money to that person---and there is real danger in questioning or having doubts....doesn't fit! Sure, most of us here like Deepak Chopra's writing--why else would we visit a forum with his name? But he's hardly mentioned here, and many other religious leaders, teachers, whatever-- are talked about. Yes, we "give" him money in terms of buying his books--but he doesn't ask for more than that--buying books or tickets to seminars or whatever--there is no pressure to do these things...and as I said, there is plenty of questioning and doubt expressed here that would never cut it with a cult...That said, like TO, I am open to hearing what truths you guys hold that you think we at the forum are blind to? And it would be so much nicer if you could hold back a bit on the sarcasm, Dick :-) Certainly, it is "allowed", but it causes your sharing to lose any impact, for me at least, because I know that you are talking down to me and without any sincere concern for my being "lost"--as you seem to think one who likes Chopra's ideas is...Have a good Sunday! Cathy

An exclusive site for those truly interested in discussing spirituality. Very interesting proposition.
Namaste' How are fellow members of the Sangha today? I'm curious, what "truth's" Curious holds, as well as Dick, or if there is none to "hold".Must be about some-One's business; back later.Have a good one, as you're going to have it any---Way.

I´m interested in entering chopra.com/catbody type.ht but but I´m unable to do so.Is there something I have to do first?
Can anyone help me. And this is very serious. If we are love, if we are all one, i could love everybody. And I could have relationschips/sex with everybody (even at the same time). Whats the reason for exclusivity/marriage with only one person? I believe in monogamy, but my girlfriend is troubled with it.......
i gave my book to a seeker and haven't had time to pick another one up. thought maybe this would be a good time to review it. i enjoy Dr. Chopra's teachings but must admit i do have much work, ahead of me. the recent changes in my life has made me painfully aware of that. and thanks, Silvia for bringing Deepak to his Forum, i enjoyed reading your selections.and Bo your post was great, thank you for sharing with the Forum.hope everyone has a great day, Peace and Namasté

well, ok, Dick, sorry my post seemed like i was making a determination, really, i wasn't but was asking. and i will try to take your misunderstanding into consideration in future posts. thank you for your input, i enjoyed sharing here, yesterday.
your comments, Curious, couldn't be further from the truth. but instead of this why don't you share your ideas with the Forum. no one is excluded. everyone can come in and write whatever they wish. i know i have. i was once a newcomer and i wrote whatever i wished for years, here. sure, there were times that others discussed what i wrote, sometimes even contested, but that is what happens when there are no exclusions. every one's ideas are read.
Thanks and bye. This forum clearly has cult thinking. A few people with fixed ideas seems to have hijacked the proceedings. There is nothing much here for a truth-seeker. Just the exaggerted projection of DC. I think Geoff writes better than DC anyday...or perhaps both are the same! If you press them hard for answeres, the reply comes " ... it may take several days to reply to your "well thought after" questions'. Dick, go home. You are wasting time here. They would not change no matter what you do. As you stay longer, you will encounter venomous responses...and the same old stories of so called "enlightenment, dharma, karma, Verma etc.". Their behaviour is as if they are superior to others as they proclaim to have "found" the truth. Considering 'outsiders' spiritually inferior is the order of the day here. If they do not like intrusion, the forum should not be open to all. Make it an exclusive one for Geoff, Bob F., Carol, Peggy and so on.....and of-course the "Great" DC who seems to know everything. Finally, I can only wish and hope that one day they would wake up from their deep slumber to realize what an spiritual mess they were pushed by a man they thought is their messiah.
seemed clearly like a determiniation to me. really. imo.
The deepest reality you are aware of is the one from which you draw your power. Before the art of medicine comes the art of belief. Intention is the active partner of attention; it is the way we convert our automatic processes into conscious ones. We all create scenarios and then become convinced of them, down to our very cells. The healthiest attitude is to realize that the unknown is just another term for "creation." You give to the world your greatest gift when you're being yourself. Nature is like a radio band with infinite stations: The reality you are now experiencing is only one station on the band, completely convincing as long as you stay tuned to it, but quite different from the choices that lie on either side. When you are in the field of creativity, you lose track of time. Only the flow exists. Suspend your assumptions about what we call reality so that we can become pioneers in a land where youthful vigor, renewal, creativity, joy, fulfillment, and timelessness are the common experience of everyday life. Always expect the best and you'll see that the outcome is spontaneously contained in the expectation. Life is like an eternal dance. The movements of the dance are choreographed through your awareness. You alone are the judge of your worth, and your goal is to discover infinite worth in yourself, no matter what anyone else thinks. A shift in awareness is the first change. The spirit is carefree and lighthearted and full of laughter. The ego is serious, arrogant, and contentious. for the sake of discussion, tho, i will look back to see if i can answer your questions. ok, you say a real mystic would have remained silent and i was trying to say not necessarily so. then i asked if you felt that your statement was a fact? if you had your facts straight and gave you some references of mystics that i feel did not remain silent. then i see that you took the conversation back to Geoff, while i was not speaking of Geoff at all. just the main context of your statement that a real mystic would have remained silent. let me state clearly here that i do consider Geoff a mystic and feel that he was satisfied with the amount of time that he had taken and was ready to speak again. i am satisfied with his decision on that matter. whether he is addicted to the Forum is his choice and i have no comment to make on that topic. then you said i had already determined that you did not have your facts straight when i clearly said that it seemed that you didn't, not a determination, really, more like an asking, imo. then you seem to bring up that i might have made a judgement, well, let me clear this up real quick, i do make judgements, i am working on that one, ok. and one more thing, i do have an ego and actually, i embrace that part of me, even the judgemental part of me. i no longer condemn myself for being human. but, would like to come to an expansion of consciousness that i could leave judgement behind and also try to be less egotistical. ok, Dick, maybe i have given you something to discuss, on a slow Saturday night. or maybe i have given you some more things to question. have at it, dear One. oh, and please let me know if i missed anything.

aaahh, Dick, i answered your queries to the best of my ability and you were not satisfied. maybe something else will come up that will bring discussion.

Very interesting reading here today.I enjoyed reading all the posts. In the moment Sitting in my garage,on my chair, looking through the fancy glass window at the top of the garage door, staring at the sun reflecting off the tree tops in front of the house, remembering a dream I had last night, walking towards the fantasic ocean, with a good friend, noticing a beautiful sur-realistic setting.Life is full awake and asleep.

haha, Cathy, the latter part of the comment was to to and Karen, sorry if i didn't make myself clear.oh, Dick, to much to consider here, just forget it and enjoy yourself, if you are? i'll not bother you.thanks, Lennie, you are pretty special yourself. but it is not so much loving to quote as it is loving to share. either way, i'm glad to see so many happy faces today. it is lovely here, today, i hope it is as lovely where you are, dear friends. so much in the world to worry about but a beautiful day can make it seem less worrisome, somehow.

Lennie I am glad my posts bring up thought processes for you--though I suppose, leading you not to think might be more productive, eh? I am not there yet...I am slowly getting into meditation, but my current thing is contemplation--I recognize the limitations...Glad to be of service :-)Cathy

Carol It wasn't me who made the comment about preferring your own words vs the quotes...but I did see several posts to that effect :-) I like both, myself :-) Sometimes the right quote at the right moment is amazing...same with shared ideas though ;-)Peace!Cathy

doom, despair, and collapsing heads? i see a pattern here. raise your hand if you are miserable. i just want to get a count.
Collapse of The Voice In Your Head - That Dialog You Identify as You - Discover the part of you that is truly unlimited, a long lost inner friend that has your interest a heart. Our egos don’t necessary want things to work out (Success). Our egos often only want success if it is filtered through our egos’ sense of control, ideas, and manipulation of the world. Our Souls could easily, effortlessly and naturally bring success into our lives but that is often unconsciously not welcomed by our egos. Discover and experience that part of you that lives on after the voice in your head has collapsed. Have you ever gone to bed at night thinking : “How can I ever survive this mess” after you have gone through all the possibilities of finding a solution but none were found and now you feel like doomed ? I am here to speak about that part of you that cannot be broken and is forever new, fresh, relaxed and joyous. The day the voice in your head collapses as your go through deep despair and there is no way out is a turning point in your Soul cause nothing greater could happen to assist the coming of your freedom so let it happen by going deep into it. The next day or so you be likely to be in touch with that in you which is completely unharmed, alive and ready to live in this moment of now. I can only urge you to welcome the collapse of the voice in your head which is holding you back from everything your Soul desires in this world. Godspeed, Bo Brandt Laursen

HI, D2, I COULDN'T BE BETTER IF I TRIED. {P}Is the weather nice there now? I think it is so nice the way everything is different all around the earth at the same time dont you? I get exicited when folks express themselves and open their hearts to how they really feel.Geoff you are very unique and soooo full of emotions dont ever set that aside oh what am I saying here comes that heart thing again! Carol you are special too ,I know you love to quote, well I love to hear from Carol! Cathy, you bring up a lot of thought processes for me ,Thank you .
simply the statement in itself, Dick, that a real mystic would remain silent. to me it is an assumption that i could not make and was wondering how you could make that assumption, i guess? on what facts, did you make your statement?hi Cathy, oh, the way you put it, i guess i am great at discussion. ;) thanks, hon, and you too, to. i appreciate that you like personal input and will do my best but i still love the quotes and reading them and sharing them, no access to my library, tho, so you will get your way for awhile. actually, i like it when people get their way, anyway, so it is no sacrifice.

"a real mystic would have remained silent(in Geoff's situation where he admitted some addiction to the forum and proclaimed he was on sabbatical)..." sorry carol, I thought the context of my statement was clear. nowhere did I say everyone should always remain silent. now, please explain exactly which fact I misstated.

The Buddhist precept of not killing any living thing is a pretty heavy duty mindfulness practice. Especially when you get down to microorganisms.
